Friend Friday: Top 5 Summer Trends

This week, Katy of ModlyChic and the rest of the bloggers of the Friend Friday Group are talking about our top five summer trends.

1. Neon Color Blocking

Color blocking is big this year. What is an even better way to do it? Neon of course!

2. Chic Cycling

I’m really interested in getting a should be summer staple. Yes, I mean a bike. Hey, if my two year old daughter can have a pretty pink and purple bike why can’t I have two wheels on a pretty frame of my own. One of my favorite chic cyclist is Tania of What Would a Nerd Wear. As she puts it herself, she is a “bike-riding bookworm”.  She has some pretty cycling friendly outfits of her own, as well as a sweet ride.

3. Wavy Beach Hair

I recently did a tutorial on my easy to-do beach hair. I love how carefree beach hair looks. Simple, relaxed, and laid back all things that scream summer to me.

4. Shorts and Wedges

When I Googled shorts and wedges, it came up with a Yahoo answer’s question about whether or not wearing shorts and wedges was slutty. In my opinion it is not slutty unless you make it that way. I will be wearing this trend with not too short shorts, and looser shirts. I love this trend, because, it makes your legs look miles long.

5. Summer Drinks

I know summer drinks isn’t quite a trend, but this summer they will be one of my go to “accessories” for making it through this heat. That makes it an accessory right?

What are your top summer tips, tricks, and trends?

Friend Friday: Hair Care

Oh Boy! I haven’t posted a FBFF post in FOR-EVER! I’m glad to be jumping back in on an easy topic. This week the girls and guys are talking about hair care, products, and trends. Remember to check out ModlyChic for everybody else’s answers.

1.      How often do you get your hair cut?

I’m currently growing my hair out, so I go until I absolutely can’t stand how my hair looks. Than I go in to get it shaped up. That usually ends up being every 3 months.

2.      Do you go to the same stylist each time, try someone new, go to the cheap hair cutting chains or live it up in a salon?

Well, since my sister in-law is a hair dresser I have been going to her exclusively since she started school.

3.      Do you color your hair? How often? What’s your natural color?

Yes, I color my hair. Typically whenever I get my haircut. Like I said it averages out to every three maybe four months. Naturally my hair is a medium to dark brown with a lot of red in it.

4.      The one thing you always do to keep your hair looking great is:

I take my vitamins, and I don’t use a lot of heat or styling products. I don’t “style” my hair very often simply because I don’t have enough time to do so. When I do style it I make sure to use a thermal protective product. Right now I’m using Moroccan Oil, and have had great results with that.

5.      What hair trend do you love and wish you could rock?

I’ve tried so many trends (remember: SIL is a hairdresser). Honestly, there isn’t one I absolutely love that I haven’t tried. I think I may try feather extensions sometime this summer, but I’m not sure if it will happen or not.

What are your hair tips, fave products, or favorite trends?

Friend Friday: Keeping the Balance

This week all of FBFF girls and guys are sharing how we are super heroes in our own right. Keeping the balance between blogging, working, playing, and our friends and family isn’t easy. Check out everyone’s answers over at ModlyChic.
1. When it comes to prioritizing your life, in what place does
blogging fall?
Blogging is probably in  3rd place behind family and dance/work.
2. We all wish we had more free time to dedicate to blogging and all
it entails. What are your tricks for taking advantage of the time you
do have to be as productive as possible?
I try and pre-post as much as possible. That way when I have a few minutes here or there I can return comments, visit blogs, or interact with everyone on Twitter.
3. Have you discovered any short-cuts that makes blogging easier or
more time efficient?
I don’t think I have found any short-cuts per say, however, I do take advantage of technology that may make blogging easier. I use my Droid to do a lot of things like blog reading, returning comments, and Twitter.
4. Do you have an editorial calendar or something similar that helps
you plan ahead?
I don’t have any hard copies, but I keep the same weekly schedule as much as possible. Since, I mostly do ootd posts I only need to remember to include my Every Man, Woman, and Child posts and Friend Friday. It makes it pretty simple to keep track of things.
5. If time wasn’t an issue what you would be doing on your blog/for
your blog that you aren’t doing now?
If I had the time the biggest thing I want to do know is reach out to brands. I would like to offer an occasional giveaway for you wonderful readers. Promotions with discounts from brands I know you would love would be nice too.
I would also like to interact more with bloggers/readers. I just need more hours in the day. It would be nice to get a few extra hours of sleep too.

Friend Friday: Body Image and Fashion Blogging

This week Katy and the Friend Friday group are discussing body image. As a dancer that is something I’ve had pushed at me for a looooong time. However, I’ve been blessed to never really struggle with it myself. I know several people who have succumbed to trying to mold themselves into “the perfect” dancer, gymnast, cheerleader, performer, or even the girl next door. It hurts me that anyone would hurt themselves, and so I make it my job to install a positive body image in my daughter. I also, strive to be a strong role model for the boys and girls that I teach dance too.
Anyway, here are my answers to Katy’s questions.
1. Since you started blogging has your image of yourself changed?
No. As I said earlier, I’ve had “ideals” come at me from every side. Fashion blogging is just another angle, and I’m still going to be me no matter what everyone else is.
2. Are you self-conscious about any aspect of yourself? If so, do you go out of your way to avoid it or do you post it/talk about it anyway?
I guess in being completely honest, sometimes I’m shy about my skin issues. However, I do not shy away form posting it or even talking about it.
3. Based on how your feeling now, what do you think the future hold in the evolution of your body image?
Same old, same old…I have a pretty solid opinion of myself that I don’t see changing anytime soon.
4. Do you photograph yourself for you blog? If so, how do you feel about the experience when you’re having your picture taken?
Yes! I usually take my own pictures, or have my husband take them. I guess I don’t have stage fright about it. I’m a performer, so having my picture taken is pretty easy for me.
5. What do you want every person who struggles with body image to take to heart?
This is a tough one to answer, as there are numerous things I want them to know. I guess I’ll sum it up to every piece of a puzzle is different, and we need to put every shape, size, and color together to see the final picture.
